Kindergarten

This page shows two different tier 1 projects I have done with the Kindergarten classes.

The Knowledge Tree: A Celebration of Growth

Kindergarten SEL Review and Reflection Project

  • The Knowledge Tree is a collaborative, school counseling project created with all kindergarten students to celebrate their social-emotional learning and personal growth throughout the year.
  • This interactive display took the form of a large tree, with leaves and branches representing the coping skills, problem-solving strategies, and favorite classroom memories students collected during their learning journey.
  • Students contributed by drawing or writing their ideas on individual leaves and flowers, including ways to calm down, solve small problems, and joyful moments from the school year, such as learning adventures, class achievements, and acts of kindness.
  • The project reinforced self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, while providing a meaningful space for reflection and closure.
  • The tree also served as a visual symbol of growth, showing how students’ emotional knowledge had “blossomed” over time through shared experiences and SEL lessons.
  • As a culminating activity, the Knowledge Tree promoted pride, connection, and a sense of readiness for first grade.

Light Up the School with Kindness: A Kindergarten Kindness Initiative

Kindergarten SEL Project on Empathy, Kindness, and Community Engagement

  • Light Up the School with Kindness is a project in which kindergarten students performed acts of kindness within their community, school, and home.
  • As students carried out their kind deeds, they wrote or drew their actions on lightbulb-shaped cards, symbolizing how each act of kindness helped “light up” the world around them.
  • These lightbulbs were then displayed in the school hallway, creating a visible community-wide display of empathy and positivity.
  • The project fostered social awareness, kindness, and empathy, reinforcing how small, intentional acts can make a big difference in building a supportive environment.
  • By contributing to the display, students celebrated the impact of their actions and developed a greater sense of responsibility and community.
